During the summer, the area sights more than 2.5 million seabirds of more than 230 species, making it home to the largest seabird population in the Northern Hemisphere. The islands also play host to the largest gathering of marine mammals in the world, including more than one million fur seals. Other wildlife include songbirds, snowy owls and blue foxes, as well as a resident reindeer herd is located on St. Paul.
